Toyota Corolla XL

The Toyota Corolla XL

We had this car ever since I was a kid. I’m driving it now. I chose this car because it is economical. It features a 1.3L engine.

The only thing that I don’t like about this car is that it doesn’t have a rev meter.

See? It only has a (I’ll just change it to avoid further discussions. This is my blog. Some things here are not to be taken seriously…) speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a temperature gauge.

A rev meter is needed for the driver to know if it is the right time to shift gears or not.

Well, cars have their imperfections.

speedometer yan brad, hindi tachometer. wala sa dashboard ng auto mo ang isang tachometer, isang istrumento na nagtatala ng pag-ikot ng isang makina.

Yes, it says there “tachymeter”, not tachometer. Please read it carefully before you write such comments.

ta·chym·e·ter: any of several instruments for rapidly determining distances, directions, and differences of elevation.

ta·chym·e·ter: n. A surveying instrument used for the rapid determination of distances, elevations, and bearings.

    tachymeter: noun
a theodolite designed for rapid measurements

either the two of you are right, or my dictionary is wrong, or vice versa. my money’s on the dictionary, boys

yes…. but it is on watches… it is different from the one used in a car’s instrumentation. unless you think that you can use your speedometer as a time-keeping device.

I think the author is not stupid to say that HIS car has a tachometer. It’s his car and basing from his posts, I think he knows every part of his car. Tachymeter might be written here generally and it seems you make it such a big matter…

Funny, you have the guts to correct this guy and yet you can’t even name yourself.

Do your research first. You seem to be basing everything in your dictionary while this guy bases his statement on his experience. Run your mouth when you know you’re right, anonymous.

Perhaps the author misused the term tachymeter. Tachometers measure the revs of a car. Tachymeters measure the average spead a vehicle takes over a certain period of time. That’s why when cops stop you over and check your tachymeter, they can determine if you’ve been speeding or not.

Do your research. RESEARCH GOES BEYOND JUST CHECKING THE DICTIONARY FOR THE MEANING. Besides, the last description in your dictionary was right in terms of the usage in vehicles. YOU didn’t understand it at all. It’s definitely a theodolite used for rapid surveying. Rapid surveying can only be done within fast moving objetcs. That includes CARS, TRUCKS and any other mobile vehicle that can possibly run faster than your brain.

hmmm… YOU people are the one making a big deal out of this.

i never stated that the author was stupid or anything. have i ever said anything like that in my comments? not once did i say something like that, or anything to that effect, ever.

it seems that i am wrong. if so, then i stand corrected. but look!

Omega wristwatches (and others) include an outer dial labeled “TACHYMETRE”. This web page explains what the dial does and how to use it. The documentation that comes with Omega wristwatches is amazingly absent on the subject.

    How to Use It

For example, supposed you wanted to measure the average speed a race car was traveling. After starting the chronometer function when the car passed the starting line, and stopping it after the car traveled exactly one mile, you noted that the chronometer hand is pointing at the 4 o’clock position, i.e. 20 seconds had elapsed. Looking beyond the 4 to the Tachymetre dial reveals the chronometer hand pointing to “180”. This means the average speed of the car was 180 MPH.

Let’s say instead of race car speed you are measuring something much slower, like sail boat speed. In this case you need to use a shorter distance, because the elapsed time must fall within the 7.2 – 60 second range. For this example, let’s say it took 36 seconds for your sail boat to travel 1/10 of a nautical mile. Reading the Tachymetre dial gives a speed of 100 knots, but we only traveled 1/10 of a nautical mile, so the actual answer is 1/10 of that or 10 knots.

Now lets say you wanted to measure the speed of a very very fast airplane. After traveling 10 kilometers, you noted that 10 seconds had elapsed. The Tachymetre dial gives an answer of 360, but we traveled 10 kilometers, so the answer is 10 times that, or 3600 km/hour.

it means that the tachymeter does measure speed. so? it is not the same as the one mounted in the car’s dashboard. or maybe i’m missing something….

The term tachymeter was used for it’s general meaning as a speed measuring device. A speed measuring device is also known as a speedometer.

    You said:

it means that the tachymeter does measure speed. so? it is not the same as the one mounted in the car’s dashboard. or maybe i’m missing something….

Yeah, you missed it entirely. The author never said the tachymeter was mounted on the dashboard. He simply said his car has a tachymeter. You in the other hand stated:

speedometer yan brad, hindi tachometer. wala sa dashboard ng auto mo ang isang tachometer, isang istrumento na nagtatala ng pag-ikot ng isang makina.

You mixed up the tachometer and the tachymeter…

Pretty crummy fer you to run your mouth, chap.

yep then he goes to show a picture of his car’s dashboard. one would assume that he was referring to the speedometer installed in his dash.

to get it straight, why dont we just ask the author to show us the pic of his TACHYMETER that is not on the car’s dashboard.

    yer pretty crummy yerself, lad.

Least I’ve got the balls to name myself. This is between you and the author now. Enjoy~!

nice flame war with you, don’t take it personally huh? hahaha….

ok ok… you said it yourself that it WAS used…. past tense. PAST.

but what’s the deal? i just offered a correction and now there’s lots of peeps hating me for it…

No one hates you. I appreciate your comments.
